Two days after Penn State sophomore Brandi Personett finished top-5 nationally on balance beam — promptly ending the 2008 season — coach Steve Shephard said the season was bittersweet.

Waiting to hear the final scores verified at Saturday's regional championships, Penn State sophomore Brandi Personett sat beside herself, choking back tears.
