The television program "Fox and Friends" saved the best for last Tuesday morning, when THON singing sensation Tucker Haas performed live on the show.

Tucker, who performed the Black Eyed Peas hit "Boom Boom Pow" during "THON's Got Talent," reprised his hit performance on the Fox program with Penn State THON members and his mother Lisa also on stage.

Fox News anchor Gretchen Carlson described Tucker as a YouTube "sensation."

Tucker performed his rap at the end of the show. When the music started, Tucker and the THON students began moving to the beat, with Tucker clearly in command of the performance.

Before performing, Carlson and Lisa Haas talked about Tucker's cancer diagnosis at age 2. Lisa explained that Tucker has been free of cancer since 2007.

"He's a fighter," Lisa added about her son.

Carlson also gave THON a shout-out after speaking to one of the students present in New York in support of Tucker.

Carlson mentioned how THON is the largest student-run philanthropy in the world, and was impressed by participants' -- and Tucker's -- ability to stand and dance non-stop for 46 hours.

In a tweet posted Sunday morning, Paulina Jones, a THON public relations captain, first broke the news that Haas would be performing on the morning show.

Tucker's performance on Fox News also brought a good amount of Twitter activity from Penn State students and viewers.

Final THON numbers totaled

After canning trips, fundraisers and 46 hours of dancing, the final numbers for THON 2010 are in. Exceeding last year's total, THON Public Relations Overall Elyse Adams said the continued support of the many different organizations involved is what keeps it going up.

"It was a tough economy and it was a tough year and we're really proud of every organization," Adams said. "It's a grueling process a lot of rainy days and cold mornings but students stick it out and we can't thank them enough."

While Lambda Chi Alpha and Alpha Sigma Alpha have three THON families, they know there are a lot more people to help besides them. Lambda Chi Alpha THON fundraising chairman Tim Reside (senior-economics and sociology) said he sees the big picture of all the Four Diamonds Fund families, the new children's hospital at Hershey Medical Center and the research and how the money raised from THON will help.

The organization went door to door, canned, reached out to alumni and was really driven, Reside said. He said they drew inspiration from their THON families and really connected with them this year through going to swim meets, one child's football game and throwing a birthday dinner at the fraternity house.

Alpha Sigma Alpha head THON chairwoman Robyn Scheck said this year they tried to be really creative in order to get back up to No. 2 of the list after falling to No. last year.

Scheck (sophomore-marketing) said she'll never forget the last four hours of THON spent with the organization and their families. She cried when she found out the number they raised - they had raised $25,000 more than their initial goal - and the looks on their families faces were what really made it she said.

"I was so excited, I couldn't breathe," Scheck said. "All our hard work paid off - it was not the most easiest thing to do, but it was amazing to finally reap the benefits.

Move over, Khloe Kardashian.

The U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution today congratulating Penn Staters on the continued success of THON and its mission to fight pediatric cancer.

House Resolution 1112 recognizes the Interfraternity Council/ Panhellenic Dance Marathon as not only the world's biggest student-run philanthropy, but also as the largest single contributing organization to the Four Diamonds Fund at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.

Rep. Glenn Thompson, R-Pa., tweeted at 4:30 p.m. today to share his own well wishes with the Penn State community and announce the passage of the resolution. Thompson introduced it to the House on Feb. 25, according to his Twitter page.

The full resolution, which can be found at Thompson's Web site, states that the House "commends the Pennsylvania State University students, volunteers and supporting organizations for their hard work putting together another record-breaking THON."

Remember that adorable Four Diamonds child who got the entire Bryce Jordan Center rocking with his rendition of the Black Eyed Peas' "Boom Boom Pow" during THON's Got Talentlast weekend?

Tucker Haas is on his way to becoming a viral phenomenon with the entire World Wide Web jamming to his beats and digging his swagger -- the video has since gotten almost 140,000 hits.

On Sport Illustrated's Hot Clicks section, a video of Tucker was posted along with the following description:

"I would never ask you to sit through a rendition of Boom Boom Pow unless it was worth it, so trust me on this. Tucker Haas was diagnosed with cancer when he was 2. He's been cancer-free now for almost three years. He performed the song at Penn State's recent THON charity event, which raises money to help fight childhood cancer."

Besides Sports Illustrated, Tucker's video has inspired the creation of a Facebook musician fan page which has gathered more than 4,000 fans.

On top of everything else, celebrity actress Alyssa Milano tweeted about Tucker on Thursday, calling him the "cutest boy ever."

Tucker's video was also featured on MSNBC's Top Videos earlier this week and NBC's "The Today Show" did a story about Tucker in 2007, which has made it into the Top Videos of the day.

Family Hour

The stands were filled this afternoon at THON as family hour commenced and the hour of the total reveal drew near.

Family hour kicked off with two students sharing memories of former Springfield THON member Emily Trump and Atlas THON member John Quigley, who both died in a car crash last year, as they reminisced about how much THON meant to them.

After the Springfield and Atlas alumni were remembered, Sabrina Carruthers-Parraga, a former Four Diamonds child came to the stage to speak of her longtime battle with cancer. She said that the Four Diamonds Fund brought three miracles for her: It saved her own life, and she's now the proud mother of two children, she said.

Her two children, husband and mother joined her on stage as she spoke to THON attendees.

Springfield THON member Joe Giordano (freshman-engineering) said he found family hour overwhelming and that experiencing it brings you to another level, beyond looking at pictures and reading stories.

"You're trying to feel all these different things at once, but your body doesn't have room for it, so you just cry and hold onto the person next to you," Giordano said.

Following Carruthers-Parraga's speech, each THON family in attendance was announced and welcomed to the stage with a round of applause.

Miranda Ziegler's parents took the stage and shared her story.

The family was on vacation when Ziegler was diagnosed and a short time later, Ziegler lost her battle to cancer, her mother said. Not even a month later, Ziegler's parents were attending THON to support her dancers. This year, Ziegler's friends came to THON to experience it through their lost friend.

Eli Sidler, 13, well-known at THON for his Men in Black performance with his father, tried to avoid talking about the negative aspects of his fight against cancer, instead saying that because of THON, his parents don't have to worry about how to pay for treatments.

The crowd loved Sidler's final sentiment: "Cancer sucks, but THON rocks."

Four Diamonds co-founder Charles Millard also spoke, saying that his late son, Chris, wanted to come back as a wizard to fight cancer if he died.

Millard said his son did come back through everyone at THON working to combat pediatric cancer.

The audience cheered wildly when Claire Brobson's father announced that she finished her last round of chemotherapy last night.

After a slideshow of photos of those who lost their battle to cancer, the crowd sang along to "Angels Among Us" in their memory and in celebration of those who beat cancer.

Everyone seems to be tweeting about #THON, and celebrities Khloe Kardashian and Lindsay Lohan have been retweeting THON all afternoon.

Right after the emotional Family Hour presentation and the dance marathon progressed into its final hours, #THON climbed the charts to be a trending topic worldwide -- briefly peaking at No. 1, said Elyse Adams, THON overall public relations chairwoman.

Besides Kardashian and Lohan, #THON has also made its way into the tweets of other celebrities like Tom Felton, who plays Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter movies.

20 Years of THON

After spending a whole weekend at THON, Four Diamonds Child Ashley Turban, 23, of LeMoyne, Pa., said she is very glad to keep coming back -- and she's only missed three THONs since 1988.

After 20 years, she's finally around the same age as her Circle K dancers, and she said it's nice to be able to relate to them. She's seen THON move from the White Building, to Rec Hall and then to the Bryce Jordan Center, but one thing has always remained the same -- Family Hour and the total.

"It's just cool to see other people that have courage like that, and we can all relate to each other," Turban said. "I love coming to see the other families and getting to know them."

While she's sad THON 2010 will soon be over, she's looking forward to the grand total being revealed.

"I'm excited to see the total just because no one can ever understand how much Four Diamond helps families unless you've been there."

Dancer Series: Checking Up On Christy Bruno

We caught up with our School of Hospitality Management dancer, Christy Bruno (senior-hotel, restaurant, and institutional management), right after she finished getting an ice bath at the athletic training station from the knees down.

"I feel amazing," she said. "It was wonderful."

She said she didn't try the leg massage because she was afraid she might fall asleep on the table. And then she would miss the line dances from the past four years, she said.

"I've been involved in THON for four years," she said. "So, I'm excited to do all the old dances."

"It's totally different being a moraler and a dancer," she said.

She liked dancing more than moraling, but Christy said she wouldn't dance again.

"It's something you have to experience, but I wouldn't do it again," she said.

She's really looking forward to Family Hour and the final reveal, Christy said.

"I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the total," she said. "THON got a lot of publicity this year, but I don't want to jinx it."

Dancer Series: Checking Up On Jonathon Shuff

Jonathon Shuff can see the light outside and thinks it's about 9 a.m. But he's a little bit behind because it's actually after 10.

His feet are still hurting, his knees are starting to go and his eyes are tired, but he's still dancing to "TiK ToK" by Ke$ha and loving every minute of it.

One of the hardest things for him is the line dance.

"It's just hard to pay attention and listen to it," Shuff said.

Shuff said he's had a lot of support through the night, between family and friends visiting him and bringing him one of his favorite ice creams: chocolate chip cookie dough. But one of his favorite things was mail call.

"It was from friends and family -- a lot of people I didn't expect to send mail," Shuff said.

One of his favorite pieces of mail was a poem his aunt had written for him, which was extra special because it was personal -- he really didn't receive a letter without an inspirational quote, he said.

And he said the amount of people in the stands is definitely pepping him up.

"It's surprising how many people stayed throughout the whole thing," Shuff said. "It feels really great. It's one more reason to stay up for the final hours."

THON Fashion: Crazy Costumes

Costumes run wild in the BJC as THON is nearing its last four hours. The most noticeable are the ones the moralers wear for their dancers. Brett Detweiler (junior- music performace) was wearing a huge gold painted crown like the one from the famous children's-book-turned-movie Where the Wild Things Are. Making his creativity known, Detweiler took a "Burger King" crown and added foil and spray paint to finish off the look.

"My dancer loved it," he said.

Some dancers were rocking the gifts that were given to them during Dancer Mail. Jake Copluy (junior-architectural engineering) and Maddie Haus (junior-architectural engineering) were both wearing capes, crowns, beads, and their organization shirts and shorts.

"It's a combination of everything that we have gotten since THON started." Copluy said.

Anna McCracken (junior-nursing) was colorfully dressed with her blue and white overalls that she "wears to every football game", a red hat with flowers that her mom made for her, and a cape with beads that her moraler gave her earlier in the day.

"I had hit my wall earlier, and when my moraler gave me these gifts it made me want to keep going," McCracken said.
